7 steps to stay consistent on social media

I know what it’s like I’ve been there, I’m still there! Trying to juggle clients and keep all of your admin going so promoting your own business seems to go to the bottom of the pile.

I’ve been trying to fathom why this happens as I’m sure I’m not the only one who struggles with this.

Partly, I imagine it’s because my business is still in its infancy, but mainly it’s due to overwhelm.

My business took off much faster than I had expected it to and all of a sudden I was struggling to say no to paying clients - why would you? And the only way I could make the time work was by servicing those clients and dropping the blogging and networking and, to some extent, the social media posts.

But I knew in my heart that wouldn’t work in the long term because I’m a marketer and what do marketers tell their clients? Be consistent with your marketing as all the effort you put in now pays dividends later.

It’s about building your funnel – we know that people don’t buy from us instantly  - it takes time to build relationships; that “know, like and trust” factor that is so important.

I should know, I’ve spent many years networking and using LinkedIn and the one-to-one clients I have are mainly a product of those years of consistently showing up.

So my commitment to you is to show up more often and offer you value with my marketing tips to serve you in your business.

I once heard someone say “each social media post I write is like putting $10 in the bank for the future”. It's quite a useful way of thinking about it and helps focus the mind on creating a sustainable business that will serve both you and your clients.

So what strategies do you use to stay consistent with your social media?

I hear about batching a lot which is great when the ideas are flowing but what if they’re not? Is there an activity you can do that helps you get in the creative zone? One of the best things for me is walking. I find the exercise seems to encourage the mind to start thinking creatively rather than thinking methodically.

But I think one of the things that is a culprit for holding us back is wondering whether we have anything worthwhile to say - don’t other people know as much as we do? Well not necessarily in your field.

We have to remember how unique we are. All our experiences that have led us to where we are in our lives give us a different perspective to others.

Yes, there is a lot of repetition but we will convey things differently and that’s what helps us to attract our ideal audience.

We often find that our ideal customers are a lot like us, because they resonate with the same ideas and values that we do.

I’m embarking on my next quarter with trepidation, the final quarter of the year with the intention to make it the best one yet!

So my tips to stay consistent are to

  1. Plan - get that 12 week plan on paper (or laptop)

  2. Look at forthcoming events in my diary and create content that complements.

  3. Check out awareness days/ weeks and work with relevant ones to show your values

  4. Keep consuming the many updates in social media so I can pass on new tips

  5. Set aside 20 minutes a day of dedicated time to post and engage on social media

  6. Time block an hour a week to create imagery in Canva in a batch

  7. Take photographs to keep a bank of images to reflect my working week

So with hope that lockdowns are behind us and we have more activities to share, our content creation should become easier - I know I found it hard when I hadn’t seen anyone for days to dream up something exciting to talk about!

And speaking of activities and events, if you're local to Leicestershire. you may be interested to know that I’m collaborating with a sales expert on a live event - hurray, yes live events are back!

We’ll be helping women in business create their 12 week sales and marketing plan in an intense Female Entrepreneurs Away Day live at the 4-star Leicester Marriott Hotel which will include my LinkedIn masterclass and Amanda Daly’s sales techniques workshop.

It’s not to be missed!

Here’s to a more consistent 12 weeks and let me know your tips for consistency in the comments below. It's always good to share your experiences with others in business.
